The 2006 Female Customer Report

Untitled Document

The evidence supporting the prominence of women as savvy aftermarket consumers is overwhelming, especially when it comes to performing their own routine maintenance on automobiles. Our second annual Female Customer Report reveals an increase across the board in women who’ve decided to do it themselves.
In the labor intensive category of brakes, the number of women performing their own maintenance has doubled. Other categories, like filters, held steady from last year.
Three out of five women surveyed consider themselves experienced at performing “normal maintenance and minor repairs,” with approximately 20 percent designating themselves as experts. And those who decide to get their vehicles repaired still represent a formidable buying power. We surveyed 424 women for this study, and our report reflects a statistical error of +/-2.34 percent at the 95-percent confidence level. This report includes statistics for 10 key categories, but more are available for purchase.

The report (last published in December 2006) includes analysis of the following categories: Battery chargers, Brakes, Diagnostic tools, Engine treatment, Exhaust systems, Filters, Floor mats, Motor oil, Spark plugs and Wiper blades.
