Borla Adding Manufacturing Capacity in Tennessee

Source: Styling & Performance

LOS ANGELES - According to Chris Kaufmann, PR/Motorsports manager at Borla Performance Industries, the company is in the process of moving some manufacturing "cells" to their new facility near Johnson City, Tennessee. Borla Performance Exhaust recently purchased a 330,000-square-foot plant on 10 acres there.

"If the investment tax credit goes through, we plan to buy some new equipment and expand our operation in Tennessee," said Kaufmann during meetings at the Media Trade Conference sponsored by the SEMA Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council. The meetings are being held January 22-24 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in El Segundo, California.

"One of our major thrusts for 2008 is to move Borla's XR1 race team exhaust from strictly racing to high-performance exotic cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and other high-end performance vehicles," Kaufmann said. "The XR1 system uses our patented multicore muffler system. We want to take advantage of that."

"The truck market has really changed for us," Kaufmann added. "Trucks used to be inexpensive vehicles and their owners wanted inexpensive parts. They just wouldn't spend the (relative) big bucks for an exhaust system. But, given the high prices ($40,000) of new diesel-powered pickup trucks, a $1,000 exhaust system is not a big concern," he said.

"One of the things people often overlook in our product line is exhaust headers. We have high-quality stainless steel units for the heritage muscle cars such as the 1967-1969 Camaro, the mid-1970's Chevelle and Chevy II vehicles, and for most of the newer cars and trucks."
